This antenna has greatly improved the reception in my colonial style home. After installation (very easy) I am getting "excellent" reception in all rooms of the house and "good" reception in my basement. The antenna and router are located in an upstairs corner bedroom. Before installing the antenna I was getting "fair" reception and poor reception in my basement. I mounted my antenna on the wall just above the router. Four stars, because the cable is relatively short (3').
This antenna really is a must-have to replace the 3 individual "crook-neck" antennas that come with the DWA-552 desktop wireless card. MUCH greater throughput, plus an easier task adjusting the 3 antennas integral to this unit to maximize reception (my computer is on a stand under my desk, and crawling under there to adjust the old antennas was neither easy nor particularly effective).
My Dlink DIR-655 is setup in a closet (where all the fiber etc is located) and I have had problems with interference from wifi devices in the combos around me, so I wanted to get the signal "out of the closet" :-) The signal is now a steady 5 bars (of 5), and I have no problems with interference. Speed did not improve that much (from 17/17 to 20/20), but that was not the problem. The cable is too short, though, somewhat limiting the placement options of the device.
works, does not improve reception just enables you to locate router under a desk and have antenna above
I'm impressed. That's for both where you mount/place it, AND how you angle the three different antennas.
I bought the antenna to try to fix the problem, even if it only helped a little. I bought the D-Link DWA-556 for my computer very recently, and although it worked fine, the signal strength was a tad low (after all, I am in a basement with several walls between me and the access point).
Now, with the antenna, I have 4 bars, and could probably get all 5 if I played around with it enough. The only thing to know is that PLACEMENT IS CRUCIAL. After a very quick install (we're talking 2 minutes), the antenna worked wonderfully.
Before, I had 0 (yes, 0) bars, and Windows actually said I didn't have a connection (even though the wireless worked fine). A few inches is all the difference between 2 and 4 bars.Seriously.
Regardless of how the DWA-556 might be failing to perform as it should, the antenna easily makes up for it.
